Here are the most commonly asked questions when adopting!

Business Location & Hours?

LWH Pit Bull Rescue is a foster-based animal rescue located in Texas. We do not have a physical location and all of our team members operate the rescue in their spare time. This means there is not a time or place where the public can visit. If your application is approved for adoption, we will schedule meet & greets.

What happens after I complete the application?

Within 72 hours of submitting your application, you should receive an initial email from one of our team members. Please be sure to check your junk/spam if you do not see the email. To expedite your application, you can send pictures of your home and yard and veterinary records for any current pets to bullies@mylongwayhome.org.

We process all applications fully and correspond with each applicant letting you know whether or not you have been approved to adopt.

PLEASE NOTE: submitting an application does not guarantee you will be selected for adoption and/or selected for a particular pet. We believe in the "Best Fit" model, rather than a "First Come, First Served" model.

What is the adoption fee?

Our adoption fee is $200 for every dog in our care, regardless of age, medical condition, or breed. The adoption fee ensures your pet is spayed/neutered (at the appropriate age), current on age-appropriate vaccinations, flea free and up to date on flea prevention, heartworm negative or undergoing treatment, current on heartworm prevention, microchipped, dewormed, and otherwise healthy (unless specifically denoted).

What if I'm not located in Texas?

LWH Pit Bull Rescue has adopted all over the continental United States and into Canada. We respect laws and ordinances related to caring and keeping for pit bull type dogs, so if your province, city or state does not allow bullies, we unfortunately cannot adopt to you.

All transport costs are passed onto the adopter. If you rely on our rescue to arrange your transport, the cost often ranges between $150-200 in addition to your adoption fee.

What if I have other animals?

We have adopted to homes with dogs, cats, reptiles, and birds (including chickens). Having other pets does not exclude you from adopting, however we do emphasize that it is possible the dog you are interested in may not be the right candidate for your home. We ask that you respect our decision to deny your home placement for a particular dog who we do not believe would be the right fit for your home.

PLEASE NOTE: while we do our best to expose our dogs to many environments and stimuli, dogs are still animals and can behave unpredictably. LWH Pit Bull Rescue makes no claim that any of our dogs will be okay in any and all situations.

What if I have children?

We have adopted to homes with children. Having kids in the home does not exclude you from adopting. However, we will require a meet & greet for any adult dog placed with children to ensure the child/children is/are comfortable with our dog and vice versa.

PLEASE NOTE: while we do our best to expose our dogs to many environments and stimuli, dogs are still animals and can behave unpredictably. LWH Pit Bull Rescue makes no claim that any of our dogs will be okay in any and all situations.

What if I live in an apartment/have no fenced in yard?

Apartment dwelling/renting does not disqualify you from adopting, so long as your apartment complex/leasing agent/landlord does not have breed and/or weight restrictions. If they do and you have special permission to have a pit bull type dog in your dwelling, we will approve these on a case-by-case basis.

We will NOT change a dog's breed or otherwise fabricate any known history.

A fenced in yard is not a requirement, so long as you have a plan in place to properly exercise, train and allow your dog potty breaks.
